Rugby star, Danny Cipriani is in the press today regarding his drink driving fender-bender with a mini-cab driver last year. I found this ironic because Danny's mother, Anne is a black-cab driver. Thankfully no one got hurt because of Danny's lack of thought.
Imagine Anne Cipriani finding out her son had misbehaved in such a way that he could have actually gone to jail if the worse had happened. All of her hard work to give him a better start in life would have felt like it had all been for what? I think a rolling pin would have most definitely landed on his back-side. Maybe.
Anne is one of the many mums that made up her mind that her child would go to a top school. She did double shifts as a black-cab driver to pay for her son's private school education at Donhead Catholic prep school in Wimbledon. She credits the school for introducing Danny to Rugby.
Danny went on to earn a scholarship at a boarding school in Reading. The application was filled in by his good mum no doubt. He missed his mom so much that after his first year decided to be back at home. He got another scholarship to attend Whitgift school in Croydon. Lead the school to Rugby victory for the U15.
I could go on and on about the victories Danny has seen but you can read all about that yourselves. My point in mentioning Danny is that behind every incredible child is an incredible mother. A good mum.
Our kids can't do it without us. They know it and you know it. Education at a top school can change lives as Danny exemplifies but it is the parent behind the child, leading the charge, filling out applications, not being concerned with whether or not the money is there. Finding a way to give the next generation - our children -greater opportunities in life, is truly what it is all about.
I'm tipping my hat to Anne Cipriani for being a shining example of what a Good Mum is all about.
Well done Anne.
